Hi everyone,

I am not familiar with the Ft. Lauderdale area at all, (and the recent I-595 construction projects haven't helped), so am seeking the wisdom of any of you who are road warriors.

When I'm headed southbound on U.S. 441/SR 7, how do I get onto westbound SR 84? My goal is to get to Davie Road without getting onto I-595.

I heard there is a new ramp that's just been recently opened (See I-595 Construction Updates for details and First New Ramp Of I-595 Construction To Open Tonight « CBS Miami for a less dense version).

I looked at Street View on Google Maps, and saw that there's an on-ramp from southbound 441 that takes you to I-595 and SR 84, and then supposedly, this ramp splits at a fork, and you can keep right to get onto SR 84, but the maps are pre-construction, and it doesn't show where the ramp splits to get onto SR 84.

I know I should just follow the signs but I want to have an idea of where I am going beforehand.

Has anyone driven this route? Is it congested? Or potentially confusing for non-Fort Laud. drivers?

Thanks.

I'll try to help. This is a very confusing task.

You want to take 441 southbound to SR-84 westbound to reach Davie Road without getting on 595. Under the old system, there is no way to do this. You would have to get on 595. I am not 100% familiar with the recent construction changes, but I believe they are changing this so that you will be able to get on SR-84 from 441. This is because they are converting SR-84 into a continuous highway.

There is one alternative route you can take. You can take 441 further south beyond the 595 interchange to Orange Drive and turn right. Orange Drive cuts through to Davie Road. You could also go 1 more light south to Griffin Road to cut over. However, the morning traffic may be just as congested.

My preference would be just to get on 595. The traffic going westbound in the morning isn't that bad compared to eastbound, and you only have to drive on 595 for a very short distance, maybe 1/2 a mile.
