I am looking into possibly buying a condo in Royal Park (38th & Powerline, Oakland Park), But I am new to the area and hear the neighborhood isn't all that great. I am not really a neighborhood snob, and the community is gated, but I would like to know if I should be concerned about safety or quality of living.

I lived there many, many years ago and it wasn't that nice then. I know the area and I wouldn't move back there.

The area is a cluster of apartment communities bunched together. The problem is they are located in a rougher area of town. The community itself isn't bad. Its just the area around it.

In terms of location and price, it would be affordable and efficient for someone young and single to rent there if they work in Fort Lauderdale. Otherwise, I would not recommend anyone else living there. The area around it is just yuck.
