My family and I are (still) in the process of looking to move down to the area (job was put on hold by Co.).

Coming from Orlando there has been a lot of talk about Zika, and living on water we have definitely gone the extra step installing mosquito misters.

Has there been a big scare in the Parkland / Weston / Cooper City areas? I worry some since these areas are so far west.

Not a deal breaker for the move, but definitely something the wife and I have in our minds.

The outbreak was mostly isolated to the Wynwood area of Miami, with that said it seems to be under control, the media tends to blow things out of proportion. There is really nothing to worry about, life has gone about as normal throughout the rest of South Florida.. Enjoy your move!

I agree with the above comments - nobody here in SFl is talking about Zika, and when I say nobody, I mean nobody, so if you don't want to be instantly recognized as the family that just moved to SFl, then don't mention that word to anyone.

Hope you have a great move!!

I was standing on the supermarket line here in Naples next to a very pregnant woman. She was wearing shorts and a maternity tank top. Worried about Zika?

There's certainly awareness of the situation, but I think most people here regard Zika the same way they typically regard media-induced scares -- you're more likely to be the victim of a car accident or heart attack.

I disagree. You are MUCH more likely to be the victim of a media-induced scare.

Over time, the disease will hit many places. Right now, the holding action allows time for testing of immunizations. Nature will have her way, as citrus canker and fire ants and citrus greening will attest.

You may be right. I was merely pointing out, as did others on this board, that at this time (three key words) in Fort Lauderdale, there is awareness, but no sense of panic or doom.

I hope and pray that efforts to create Zika immunizations are successful.

Let's face it -- every time we walk out the door anymore, we take a risk. Add Zika to this list.

Pretty much... every summer there's a media induced panic transmitted by a mosquito... remember chikunguya?
