With districts as large as Broward and Palm Beach the district report cards are totally useless.

I do agree though that if the OP is looking for an area with good schools that is close to Boca, she should look in Boca. If she doesn't find anything in Boca then Parkland and parts of Coral Springs would also work.

If you are trying to avoid this, Weston is the exact same way, welcome to South Florida. You might want to look into the eastern sections of Boca Raton where many homes are not part of a HOA. Schools in most of Boca will be on at least the same level as Weston, save for the central-western sections. Delray Beach is fine in many sections but does not have good schools. Long story short there is definitely no reason to drive from Weston to Boca. If you don't like HOA's, like lots of land, but still want to live in a good area with good schools, maybe look into Loxahatchee or Southwest Ranches, both about 30-45 minutes to Boca, not too much traffic to get there. Loxahatchee will put you closer to West Palm Beach and more "in the sticks", Southwest Ranches borders on Weston and has a very central location to Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, although still far from the beaches.

My co worker lives in West Boca, and was very positive about the schools there.
