Oh yeah, I can see what your saying around there. Kind of awkward to see the 1 million strip clubs and general sleaze clash with the nice neighborhoods over there. I live out in Weston so it's a whole different ball game for me. Fort Lauderdale proper is definitely a strangely "sleazy" city. Perceptions can be totally different when you live in an area like Weston versus actually living east of 95.

The way I look at it is that we have more "nice" areas going out west than a lot of places. We have the entire county west of University Drive which is pretty "normal" and when you go north of Atlantic Blvd., you can extend that to the Turnpike. Nowhere else in the state has an area that large and consistent. I can definitely understand many of your observations now that I see just where you are coming from.

To tell you the truth, "strange" is a lot better than it being a total pit like many metros are like in the center (Detroit? Atlanta?). And it is strange! All and all Fort Lauderdale proper is a good place to party, drink, and buy porn, but I would never live there if I was over 25 (heck, I AM under 25 and it's a little to intense for me). I just think the surrounding area is rather dynamic and not a bad place to be at all.

So what exactly is considered Coral Ridge? I know what area it is in, but how do you completely tell if you're in it or not? Is it just that certain section of Fort Lauderdale?

Hey, Hoshy. Don't listen to the naysayers.

I live in Coral Springs, which is way west of Ft. Lauderdale. It's an ultra-family town, and being a family man, I hate it. I want to see topless girls on the beach, but my wife won't let me.

If you want to live near the beach, you don't have to live RIGHT on the beach. It's no big deal to be west of U.S. 1, west of 95, and still have an easy ride to the beach.

For emplotment--yeah, you gotta be down here. It's not the greatest job market, but it's better than a lot of others. Here's the deal:

If you move to Ft. Lauderdale, you'll be able to search the employment markets of Ft. Lauderdale up to Boca Raton, and their are a LOT of good companies in Boca. (More than Ft. Lauderdale.) Yes, living there, you can work in Miami TOO, but that's one hell of a pain in the ass commute, but you can always take tri-rail. Also, big corporate things are happening in Sunrise, Westin, and other areas--all west of Ft. Lauderdale pretty accessible.

If you move to an area like Deerfield Beach, which is a little north of Ft. Lauderdale and south of Boca, you can hit the employment markets of Ft. Laud, Boca, all the way up to West Palm Beach. And again, there is A LOT going on in West Palm.

Wherever you decide to first land here, you'll be cool, because there are a lot of developments that offer 9-month leases.

The one thing about this area is that is a great place to operate if you can be self-employed. Very business-friendly, and huge customer base--a lot of people.

LOL I'm in Ft. Lauderdale and am considering moving to AZ-the phoenix, mesa area to be more specific. The cost of living here is ridiculous & even with a degree and a half i can't find a decent paying job. I really like the weather here though & the beaches. If ya don't mind my asking, what are your reasons for leaving AZ & what part are you in?

Yes I would say Port Royal as well. They offer pools and are right of the intracoastal. Prices are moderate between 950-1150 for 1 bedrooms. Great neighboorhood and its gated. You are about 5 minutes from the beach there. Plus you are near Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale by the Sea, and Pompano all of which have great things to offer.

Other than that pick up those apartment guides. Many of the samller apartments near Federal highway are a great deal and very close to the beach and are in a good neighborhhod.

Good luck!

You have Coral Ridge, Bayview, and Knoll Ridge all of which are between Sunrise & Commercial just east of US1. Its hard to tell where one begins and the next ends. But they are all basically in the genral area.

Bayview is definately the bigger, pricier homes while as you move along they get a little smaller. Once you keep going west and get to Dixie Highway they all end.

Check out the Victoria Park area. It is just east of US1 between Broward Blvd and Sunrise Blvd. It is very close to Las Olas and the beach. Lots of resturants and shopping in the area, pretty safe too.

I live in Tempe and work at a bar in old town scottsdale. I've been here for 10 years now. I never really planned on staying when I first moved here. I finally finished school and I am just looking for a change. I've always wanted to live by the beach so I kind of figured why not now while I'm still young and not tied down with boyfirends, husbands, kids etc.. It's alright here I am just kind of over it, especially the fake and pretenious people of scottsdale. Working in one of the more popular bars out here has made this the largest smallest town I know. Tempe is very college orientented. I wouldn't recommed living in Tempe unless your in college. It's kind of gotten dirty and lil scary at night if you know what I mean. Parts of Mesa are nice. But parts can also be very trashy and crime ridden. What part you moving to? Its a big area...
