In this thread we shall discuss the positives and negatives of Coconut Creek, FL.

According to recent census information the city has grown by 21% between the years of 2000 to 2010.
In 2000 it was 43,000 residents, in 2010 it's was at 52,000.

People are obviously moving here for a reason, but what is the reason? Please share your opinion of the area and explain why u have either a positive or negative impression of Coconut Creek.

Just my impression from driving through is that it seems like a wonderful family area and a cheaper alternative to Parkland and Coral Springs, yet closer to the beaches.

It's cheaper, that's why people are moving there.
I don't care for the area because there are not enough restaurants and shopping.
It seems to cater to the 55+ communities there.

There is plenty of shopping in nearby Boca and Coral Springs. The Town Center Mall is only 5 minutes away. I'm not sure why you need all of this shopping. Sawgrass Mills is only 20 minutes away and there are Publixes every square mile everywhere in South FL.

Thanks,

I was originally looking in Boca....specifically around Saint Andrews rd and glades, near Town Center Mall, but everything was just too dang expensive. I chose this property, because it's about 10 minutes from Boca, but a lot more affordable, but still safe, clean, and nicely landscaped. I think part of the joy of living in Florida is the tropical plants and pools, so one of requirements was a lushly landscaped complex....and the ones in Boca are super expensive, but this one looks just like the ones in Boca for a bit less money.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Coconut Creek is way cheaper than Boca, but with not much dropoff in the standard of living. You are only 5-10 minutes from Boca too, so you can enjoy the same activities. I would choose Coconut Creek anyday over Boca, although I'm not certain how the schools are there compared to Boca.

I've always thought Coconut Creek was a bit underrated. I think some tend to avoid the area due to the proximity to Mount Trashmore. I lived just south of there for a few years and spent a good bit of time there. A big plus is the new Promenade outdoor mall at the corner of Lyons and Wiles, which has some good restaurants and shopping. There is newer housing and the City and county parks nearby offer good amenities. There are several horseback riding stables /boarding barns right near Tradewinds Park, and a network of trails. Tradewinds Park itself is huge, and a great resource for cyclists and runners.
