I lived at the Olympus in Hallandale from March 2009 to March 2010. It was really nice and the rent was reasonable, but we rented from a private owner who had been using the place as a vacation home, but wasn't able to use it as much as they wanted so they decided to rent it out.
There were A LOT of retired and older people there, but also some younger singles as well as a few year round families. The complex is huge and there are 3 separate condo towers on the property. It's about a mile to the beach and just off Hallandale Beach Rd.

Stick to the northeast section of Hallandale (east of US1 and north of Hallandale Beach Blvd.) or the condos on the beach and you'll be fine.

Golden Isles is very nice. I forgot about that area when I wrote my earlier post. You'll be fine there.
