Can anyone reccomend anything FUN to do on Columbus Day? We are a couple in our 30s!

Since the holiday is Oct 8th, can anyone tell me if all the stores are closed due to the holiday?

Government offices will be closed but not stores, don't worry. Sorry, I don't have any suggestions for fun things to do other than the beach. Someone else will be along with some ideas, I'm sure.

Florida by Water - EVENTS - 2012 Columbus Day in Biscayne Bay

You'd have to figure out a way to get on a boat - there are rental places all over the place and I'm sure there's ways to hitch a ride for a fee - it's not for everyone, but it's quite a party.
