Normally when I head to Florida, I rent a car. Average is usally about $150-$200 /week. I am heading to Florida for 12 days at the end of December and the prices are almost TRIPLE the cost. Can anyone suggest where the best place is to rent a car at this time. Normally I go through Expedia or Hotwire.

I've used Priceline.com's Name Your Own Price feature many times to save quite a significant amount over quoted rates.

When you submit a bid, my understanding is that you are bidding on reservations that the rental companies in the program expect to go unsold otherwise ("they'd rather get some revenue than none at all"). Of course, this generally only works toward your advantage when it's nearing last-minute, which I admit is very unnerving to cut it so close. But it hasn't burned me yet.

If you have AAA, try their website.

I use Kayak.com because they compare all of the car rental agencies and give you the best price. Hotwire tends to be the most expensive one.
