I will be visiting family in Fort Lauderdale for the holidays.

Trying to think of some out of the box type ideas of things to do besides the beach.

I've spent time in Fort Lauderdale mostly hanging around the galt , visiting las olas area. Everglades.

I am 30, I will mostly be spending time hanging out with family but thinking of some interesting things to do that they might not have done even though they live there.

Also are there any events around this time of year? Probably not too many since it's Christmas time, but worth asking.

Also ideas for Broward County in general would be appreciated as well.

Thanks

There are actually a lot of events going on around the holidays. Most of them revolve around the Las Olas area or the beach. There isn't much in Broward County away from those areas going on. Most of Broward is just large sprawling suburban areas. The beach areas and downtown are the only places with things going on usually.

This place is pretty cool: Mai-Kai Restaurant - Fort Lauderdale (though the menu is Chinese not Polynesian).
Lion Country Safari
Morikami Japanese Garden
Often there's live music at the Seminole Hard Rock
Downtown Hollywood/Young Circle has art walks and live music regularly.

Seminole casino at 441 and Sample road and also the Isle Casino and both have great buffets.

Airboat rides out at Everglades or Holiday park gives you a chance to see nature. If you know how to operate a boat, then you can rent one at Holiday park and tours some of that area on your own or with family.

Fishing is great out west, just be sure to use a cane pole or get a fishing license so your holiday is not ruined with a citation.

Miami has a Zoo and there is Lion Country up in Palm Beach which are neat to visit if you like that type of thing.

South beach has some neat swinging places to see and if you want a nude beach then check out Haulover beach, now that is out of the box and at the right times of different days some of the nude dancers like to hang out at the beaches and speaking of nude, there are many totally nude clubs in South Florida if that is your sort of thing, that too is out of the box. lol

Just have fun and be sure to go down to the Elbow Room at Las Olas and the beach in the evening to see partying like there is no other partying IMHO.

Also if you like to swim try snorkeling off Dania beach and ask around where the jack reefs are and see if you can get down to them and watch the neat colored fish. If you like to dive then try diving off the Hallandale oil platform which hits bottom I believe if I remember correctly is about 142 feet down.
