Hello,

I am a 24 year old single girl living in Boca Raton. I recently moved down here but don't know anyone other that my co-workers. I am looking to meet other mid 20 year olds in either Ft. Lauderdale or Boca Raton. I am a fun, energetic person I just don't know where to go to meet people.

Any suggestions on places to go or websites or anything would be awesome. Thanks!

Atlantic Avenue is Delray has a lot of great spots to walk and mingle, also you should look into a young professionals group. The Chamber of Ft Lauderdale has one and they have an event tomorrow I believe (or maybe it was last Thursday- they happen about monthly.

There are also new, popular places to go that are filled with young people like American Social on Las Olas and Royal Pig Pub also on Las Olas. American Social has a lot of post-college young people so it is a good place to run into people your age who like to have fun. Just depends where you want to make friends! You'll also have to be nervy to strike up a conversation, as not too many people are open to chatting with strangers on their own.

Good luck!
Jenn

Meetup is the world's largest network of local groups. Meetup makes it easy for anyone to organize a local group or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face. More than 9,000 groups get together in local communities each day, each one with the goal of improving themselves or their communities. You can search meetup's by location or interest. Great way to meet people with similar interest, and there are LOTS in the south florida area. Just google"meetup".

What the second and the fourth poster said are good ones. Plus there's the usual places, clubbing in SoBe (and FTL), the Design District of Miami, Las Olas, etc.

That granted, I'm also in my 20s, fit, also active lifestyle (when not working), and have not been lucky meeting girls down here. Though I work a quite big number of hours per week and it seems that some people down here find that being in LE (Law Enforcement) is a turn-off, for I don't know what reasons, weirdly. Or maybe because I've got just a small Ford and am very humble; as at least in Miami (and FTL, up to a certain point) that sort of thing (that whole flashy, show-off scene that I don't understand) is sort of big.

The problem in South FL is that nightlife revolves around showing off how good you look, how expensive your clothes and jewelry are, and how cool your clique is. If you don't role in a clique, you're not going to meet anyone at bars going single. People keep to themselves at bars and don't meet new people often unless its through their direct friends. Women go in packs and put up defense barriers so that any guy who tries to meet them is immediately shot down. A guy approaching a girl at a bar is viewed as weird, unless he drives a Ferrari or Maserati. If a guy has a business card that says he's a doctor or lawyer, he might stand a chance. Still, it would be the business card that attracts the girl, not the actual guy. Women are looking for money, plain and simple. If you work an average job and drive an average car, you'll have a tough time.

I can understand why women put up so many barriers. There are so many sketchy guys in South FL that the women cannot take chances. If a girl opens up to too many guys, she's liable to get taken advantage of. It is sort of a chicken and egg problem where the guys are sketchy and the girls are only looking for guys with money, so few girls find what they're looking for and the good guys are screwed because they don't drive a nice enough car.

Online dating is huge here. You could try that.

That's exactly right, very well said; that's the problem here. Nearly everything is appearances. And the interesting bit is that most of those guys showing off live in a skip or something and don't earn really well at all. Nearly everytime it's all fake. When I worked in another position, just because it had 'Executive' written on the business card, I was treated like another completely different person.

Online dating is another option, but be careful, and it can be difficult. I've did that a while back and managed to found someone who's not into that whole fake wealth scene and it was excellent. But it took time.

Default Same situation

Hey Lauren, my name is Matt and I am in a similar situation to you. I am 25 and just moved to the Fort Lauderdale area from Arizona. I don't really know anyone down here and I am finding it difficult to meet friends around our age as well. I was wondering if you found out anything that was helpful in your process of making friends that might be able to help me as well.

I would suggest staying away from dating sites, it's a trap. It's easy to meet people and find someone to go out with that way, but you would also be dealing with a bunch of serial daters and one nighters. And that goes for men and women. Good luck
