Sorry; I often confuse St. Pete with Siesta Key, idk why haha. I didn't mean the sand on the Atlantic is brown, just browner. I guess I should've said darker. I do agree that I prefer the Ft. Lauderdale beaches to the Gulf

Siesta Key is supposed to have white hour glass sand. Fort Lauderdale doesn't have sand like that.

My point was that St. Pete beaches are different than Siesta Key or Naples even though they're all west coach beaches.

The scenery is more natural-marshes, palm trees, pine forests, all along the water's edge. Not so common in the urbanized coast along the Atlantic Ocean.

Atlantic-the waters aren't rough, per se, but not as calm as the Gulf. The ocean is cooler in summer, but warmer in winter, than the Gulf, with cooler breezes. The water color depends on where you are. Daytona Beach's ocean water looks normal (dark blue), Ft. Lauderdale/PBC is more of a periwinkle color, Miami & the Keys are more turquoise, like the Caribbean nearby. The sand isn't as nice; more brown and rough, not as many cool shells as the Gulf. The coast is also not as natural. Sure it has palm trees, but mostly just a bunch of buildings on the coast. The upside to this is that the beach is close to restaurants and nightlife, and you can walk right from your hotel room down to the beach. Often not the case on the Gulf.
Daytona Beach has nice light blue Koolaid water today. It really only looks dark blue when it's cloudy. Otherwise it looks like Gatorade.

Yes, I know. My dad wasn't impressed with the sand in Ft. Lauderdale.
