I have a friend who bough a vacation place in Florida, a condo.

He lives in Russia. He got his first electric bill from FPL and is trying to pay it online. But when he is trying to register on the FPL website, the website is asking for a SSN, which he doesn't have. So he can't proceed with that method.

I found a link for him, based off the FPL website that is linked to Western Union. It only asks for the FPL account number and the service zip code. But when he enters those, he gets a response that such an account could not be found.

What could he do?

P.S. I also suggested to him to try mycheckfree.com, not sure if he already tried it, but I have a feeling that will also have some kind of a trap.

For security reasons it is highly unlikely he can get into acct. without SSN. Wondering myself how he even got FPL to give him acct. without SSN. They usually run check on any new customer. Always first thing they ask for when open pretty much any acct. whether it be electric, water ,cable . Always been my experience at least.

All you can do on your part is since he lives in another country is call FPL on his behalf (of course not going to be able to access his act. for you) and ask them what he can do. Maybe he can pay you and you can pay in person for him? Just an idea.

He should contact FPL customer service, by email if he has to and ask them what he can do. There has to be a way to do it. I know there are a lot of Canadian snowbirds that don't have SS# that must still be able to pay online.

Thanks.

I poked around the FPL website and found a link to pay via Western Union. He used it and eventually was able to pay.
