We're moving to Weston next week and I've been trying to figure out the grocery/food landscape. I've been trying to find the equivalent of our local foodie/organic/healthy food store. It's sort of like a Whole Foods only a bit more foodie-friendly and slightly less focused on vitamins and holistic foods. I tend to shop at multiple grocery stores.

From what I can gather, the Fresh Market is similar. How are the prices? How is the produce quality? Do they have a bulk section? Decadent treats? Good organic selection?

Also, which Whole Foods would closer to Weston Town Center? Which one is bigger and has a better selection?

Thanks!

W

Whole Foods in Pembroke Pines would probably be closer. The Fresh Market is in Pembroke Pines off Sheridan & Flamingo. The difference is that you can't buy vitamins at the Fresh Market, and the grocery section is smaller. I think there is a bulk section, but Whole Foods bulk section is huge. There is also a large wine section at Fresh Market. At Whole Foods (whole paycheck), it's just a hugh organic supermarket. I like the prepared foods section at Whole Foods, too. There are two Whole Foods Markets near you, Pembroke Pines (new store) which would be closer, and Plantation (which is the one I prefer, the people there seem friendlier). Whole Foods has an amazing bakery, but the Fresh Market has a nice bakery for ready made pies, and their fresh bread selection is extensive.

There is another store called NutritionSmart in Pembroke Pines. It mainly sells vitamins, but does have grocery foods, and a limited produce section.

Welcome to Weston! Do you also shop at farmer's markets? I can recommend 2 -- the farmer's market at Cleveland Clinic Weston (every Thursday), SW Ranches Farmer's Market (between Stirling and Griffin near Archbishop Edward McCarthy HS -- open daily except on Thursday). There is also a larger, more "commercial" farmer's market called Flamingo Nursery on Flamingo off of I-95 and it has some interesting things. Memorial West Miramar is starting to host a farmer's market on Saturdays but I haven't been yet.

Yes! I can't believe I forgot to ask about farmer's markets. This is great info, thanks!

Welcome to Weston!

I really like Fresh Market. Prices are somewhat higher than Publix, but the quality is nicer too.

I wish they had built a Fresh Market in Weston instead of doing five Publixes. Could never understand why a place like Weston doesn't have a gourmet market (we used to have one actually, years ago, but that place closed, they were in an unpopular location)

FWIW, there is also an upscale Publix over by Peters Rd and University. Again, why didn't they bring that to Weston? Boggles my mind.

Weston needs a TJs, right on the eastern edge near 75. What a money maker that would be.

That gourmet market that didn't make it was on the eastern edge near I-75.

I would love that. I am going to miss my TJ's!

Well, I have arrived in Weston and made my first trip to Publix tonight. Definitely not going to have a one-stop shopping location. I'm sure I'll figure out my favorite spots before long.

Otherwise, Weston is lovely and VERY green!

Fresh Market is nice, maybe more exotic and definitely of higher class than Publix.
