I hardly hear of anything good about Lauderhill, but a quick glimpse of the Lauderhill neigborhood (16th-19th ST.) with Google streetview around the middle and elementary schools looks pretty decent, maybe even upper-middle class. Is this the nice part of Lauderhill, or is this area still pretty shady?

I assume you're referring to the area off of SR 7. Upper middle class? Absolutely not.

There are decent single family homes off of Inverarry Boulevard. The Woodlands off of Commercial is nice. The area of Lauderhill south of Commercial and between University and Pine Island is decent.

If you're looking for a nice suburb, I'd stay clear off all municipalities on the Fort Lauderdale address grid (with the exceptions of Plantation and Fort Lauderdale itself).

It's not that bad back where the single family homes are. Upper middle class though? Definitely not, but there are many worse neighborhoods in Lauderhill. The nice part of Lauderhill is west of the turnpike, north of Oakland Park Blvd.

I guess I didn't mean 'upper' middle class, but something resembling a stable, safe neighborhood. Does "not that bad" mean no walking around at night?

Walking at night would not be particularly dangerous if you know the spots to avoid. The thing is you will have a few streets with well kept lawns, nice houses, decent neighbors, etc, and then you will have a cluster of streets with houses split into 4 apartments, drug dealers, houses rented out to section 8 tenants, etc. You could live back there if you had to and probably not have a problem, but to answer your original question, this isn't considered the "nice" part or worst part of Lauderhill.
