I am moving to Ft Lauderdale but the only parts of town I am familiar with are all on the north east side. (Poincettia Heights , Wilton Manors, Victoria Park and Coral Ridge) I do not know much about the other areas but passing through town the area near 17th causeway seemed pretty quite but looks can be deceiving. Could some of you share what this area is like with me please?

I don't live there but I drive through there on the way to Lago Mar resort every once in a while. IMO it is a very nice area.

And Harbor Beach is very nice too.

Well it depends on which area really. I would suggest eastern Ft Lauderdale near the beach. I go out near las olas very frequently, and it's a really great area to live in!

The 17th Street area is very nice and a good place to live, also very close to downtown, so they can easily catch a cab to go out downtown. The Publix on 17th Street is the best Publix in South FL in my opinion. You are also 1 minute away from the airport and cruise port, just across the bridge from Fort Lauderdale Beach, and can easily catch 595 or 95 to commute to other areas. It is an excellent area.

The only downside of that area would be it is swamped by tourists 24/7 due to the cruise port being right there and the concentration of hotels on 17th Street. The tourists walk around, frequent the shops, and restaurants. It may bother some, but I don't think its a big deal. They are mostly high class people anyways, not bums. Also, as you go west of US1 on 17th Street, the neighborhood becomes less desirable. Not bad, just not nice like it is east of US1.

In general, that SE part of Fort Lauderdale is very nice. The closer you get to the ocean, the nicer.

I think, south east fort lauderdale is bect live for you. Fort Lauderdale is an attractive city and popular tourist destination 23 miles north of Miami. Excellent access to amenities, great weather, above average employment, and a slightly lower cost of living are offset by the high crime index.

I have lived in the area for the past 15 years. The general rule of thumb is east of Federal Hwy is nice, and appropriately expensive. From a geographical perspective, the inhabitable part of the county is about 40 miles north to south and 10 miles east to west. There are also nice areas on the western section such as Coral Springs and Weston, but you don't have the easy beach access. Another general rule is that the rough neighborhoods are between Dixie Hwy on the east and the Florida Turnpike on the west.
