Hi,

My husband got a hip replacement last year at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort-Lauderdale by - supposedly - the best surgeon for robot surgery (Dr Padden). Unfortunately, he made a crack in his femur and didn't notice it, so it got much worse until he re-opened. Now, my husband is handicaped he can't bend his leg. He said it was because of the broken femur.

The other hip needs to be replaced soon. Anyone could recommend someone else? He wants to go back with him but I am afraid it's not in his best interest.

I would be very grateful for another reference. It has to be done in Broward County or at the worst Dade County.

Thank you very much

Suggestions:

1. Move or re-post this query on the appropriate Florida city forum- Ft. Lauderdale or Miami. Even though this is a health related question, you will probably get better answers there since you are asking about a specific location.

2. You can search the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) website for locating a physician here:

Find an Orthopaedist - AAOS

3. I am sorry your husband had a less than desirable outcome the first time around, but it doesn't necessarily mean the provider did anything wrong as you suggest above. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. But, I would consider getting the next THR done via the more traditional approach. Robotic surgery has its place, but a lot of it is just a big PR scam for the benefit (mostly) of the hospital.

Good luck.

Check out Dr. Daniel Chan at Memorial Hospital in Hollywood. He's wonderful.

I second this. Loved Dr. DeSimone he was honest & helped me avoid surgery. Was very happy with him but last saw him back in 2006 as not living in area right now. So has been a while for me.

Good Luck

I've heard that a lot of the athletes here in South Florida go to Dr. Daniel Kanell -- looks like he is on staff at Broward Health.

Thanks all for your answers. Since he has no more cartilage, he NEEDS a surgery.

Dr Chan seems great, but he doesn't accept my husband's insurance
Dr Kanell doesn't perform hip replacement and at 75, we have doubts on his technics.
Weston has Dr Silvershein or something like that, he is not a surgeon
Dr Coats is a neurosurgeon

So we have to continue our quest...
It seems that the only specialists for hip replacement are Dr Padden (no more) and Dr Leone who is not accepted anymore by his insurance. We will probably have to take chance with someone who is not so specialized

I guess you think he's only a brain surgeon, but he isn't.

I went to see him for a herniated disk with mild spinal stenosis and he said surgery was not required right away and to give it time and it got better on it's own. Also he and his partner work with players of the Miami Dolphins and their injury issues.

When I saw him I was really bad too, I could barely walk, I couldn't sit in his waiting room too long, so his staff let me lie down in an exam room until he was able to see me. He was also very kind and down to earth.
