My family and I are planning a move to the Boca area for my career. We have 2 young children.

Can anyone recommend a neighborhood max. 20 miles south of Boca (nothing north) with great schools, moderately upscale and within a 15 minute vicinity to the beach? Schools are really, really important.

Check out Parkland 33076 it might be one area for you, the schools are rated pretty high but for your price range there may not be a lot of choices. Why not stay in Boca Raton, they have some pretty good schools too.

15 minutes to the beaches will be difficult as the east-west thoroughfares can be almost consistently jammed, more like a bit less than 30 minutes. I would recommend focusing on the area in Boca roughly bounded by Glades Road north to Clint Moore, west of Military Trail and east of the Turnpike, especially around the Yamato Road and Jog Road area where you'll find a good number of listings around the 250K mark. The schools are across the board excellent in this area.

Coconut Creek might be an option.

after doing a bit of research we've narrowed in on the plantation area/american heritage school. Plantation itself is a bit expensive for us as we'll have 2 young kids in private school - what are some good areas around plantation? beach really doesn't matter all that much anyway.

i hadn't considered staying in boca because a friend of mine told us that it may be too 'old' for us...? not sure about that but she's a lifetime resident of miami.

Miami and Boca are worlds apart. Lots of young people in Boca too but a good part of Plantation is nice as well, yet also has a lot of retirees in condos.

I'm no fan of Boca.. but I don't get why your friend said it's "too old".. does she spend a lot of time in Boca?
What are her qualifications for saying that?
Boca's pretty diverse... depending on what area of course.. like anywhere in South Florida.
