I may be moving to the Fort Lauderdale area and wanted to know if there is a term or expression that encompasses not just Fort Lauderdale but surrounding communities as well - neighboring suburbs possibly extending towards Miami and/or encompassing parts of the 561 area code - that Floridians use and understand. I've lived in MA for years and the term 'Greater Boston' is used regularly to refer to all cities in and around Boston - extended out towards Worcester and including the 'north shore' and 'south shore.' The 'north shore' generally means areas north of Burlington - which incorporates a huge area north of Boston and the 'south shore' represents a huge area with many cities south of Boston even extending towards the cape. 'Metrowest' means greater Boston extending out towards Framingham and neighboring communities. Are there comparable expressions that Floridians use to describe the Fort Lauderdale area and surrounding towns/cities - without having to name each city individually?

Greater Miami area usually means Broward County and Palm Beach County.

Thank you. Would there be an expression that would include Fort Lauderdale, north including Palm Beach areas and a bit west/neighboring towns but would exclude the city of Miami, or south of Miami - or is there no such thing?
Any terms for Fort Lauderdale area and north, but not Miami?
Or maybe is there an expression for the Palm Beach area that would include areas of Fort Lauderdale (or all of Fort Lauderdale)?
I may be thinking then of 'Fort Lauderdale area and Palm Beach County' and maybe that would be how everyone labels it geographically and businesswise.

Miami Dade-Broward-Palm Beach = tri-county area, South Florida, Miami Metro Area
Broward-
Palm Beach= Northern South Florida

This is a business article referring to Northern South Florida:

Thank you, Alex! That's exactly what I was looking for. This is for business too, so unsure about the Floridian 'lingo' referring to the area as a whole and surrounding towns/suburbs.
