We will be visiting late March and were wondering if there any toll is due on 595 from Weston to Ft Lauderdale. If so, is it worth buying a toll pass?

Only in the express lanes. Unless you are traveling during rush hour, there really isn't a need to use them.

And if you have to use the Express Lanes, they are only 0.50 in each direction (they are reversible and only flow in one direction depending on the time of the day, To FTL in the morning and To Weston in the evening)

Yes but don't you need a Sunpass to use it?

Yes, any charge for express lanes need Sunpass, there is not other way to pay for them.

If you don't have Sunpass, they will take a picture of your license plate and track you down.

If you actually have a Sunpass account, they will bill you at a regular rate, based on your license plate.

If you don't have a Sunpass account, I think they will bill you what you owe, plus extra fees.

But beware of traveling in strange areas or in a rented car without Sunpass. The Florida Turnpike below Miami does not offer a way to pay cash so you will be billed, but if it's a rental car it's much more problematic and rental car companies are trying to cash in on your misfortune by making you pay a large daily fee to use it. I think some other roads are also implementing this, which is why when I moved here I got the $5 one that you stick to your windshield and you get $5 credit when you set up an account. I almost never use my Sunpass. I don't think I've used it in a year or more.

Just be careful because all of Florida is going cashless so if you are not familiar with the roads and get on a toll road, they will hit you with an invoice. The toll charge is not the issue, it is the Admin Fee of $15 PER TOLL that they charge. I am not sure if this is only on rental cars.

I hate when they try to steal money from people that way. It's more complicated with car rentals because the notice doesn't come back for a while and the car rental company has to look into who had the car that day and get the money from them.
