Hello everyone. I have 4 children and am moving into ft lauterdale from new jersey soon. I am interested in finding the best areas to live in that are a bit safe and child friendly. I have been looking at pembroke pines, coral springs, coconut creek, parkland, boca raton. But the things I have seen with the broward county public schools are a bit frightning. Looking for towns with a low crime rate. Thanks in advance!

Thanks. I am of African descent moving here, but unfortunately it has come to the point where I am trying to avoid moving to predominantly black towns, it seems the school ratings are unfortunately very poor. How is Hollywood florida?

I have friends and clients that live in Hollywood and they like being so close to the beach and all the nice restaurants and shopping on the east side of town. But, like me, they're older, retired or approaching retirement so I have no knowledge from them about the schools in town--for those who had kids, well, their kids are now adults, grown up with families of their own. So I can't help you there. Maybe others will chime in.

As far as public schools in Broward, the two cities that tend to get mentioned more often as having high ratings are Parkland and Weston. Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the input. I was looking at plantation but the schools scare me. Definitely need to go private if any other towns.

I have a friend who used to live in Plantation and she was very impressed by the elementary schools. However, she moved just as her son was entering middle school and she told me that she would never consider sending him to the middle or high school--she would have gone private if they had stayed in South Florida. Private is not cheap--an excellent private school, American Heritage, is in west Plantation, but I have heard it costs thousands to go there.

Good luck to you. That's why you're getting so many suggestions for Weston. All high rated public schools, in all sections of the city.
