There are 2 D'Angelos on Federal (they belong to the same owner), Casa di Angelo on 1201 N Federal Hwy (very good but $$$ casa-d-angelo.com) and D'Angelo on 4215 N Federal Hwy (also very good, $$ range dangelopizza.com). My personal favorite for real italian cuisine is La Cucina Veneziana on 3471 N Federal Hwy (lacucinaveneziana.net), small place, small menue, mostly daily specials, but excellent.

Wow, thank you guys for all the suggestions!!

As most of you guessed, I am from Chicago so I'm trying to stay away from chain restaurants lol. But thank you Mr. Lee for your recommendations! I will definitely look into Southport and all the other restaurants everyone has suggested.

I've never been to the Seminole Hard Rock Casino or Himmarshee district so I'll be checking those places out for sure! Do you recommend the water taxi? Looks like a great way to get around the area.

I'd just Uber. If you don't know where Himmarshee is, it's basically an extension of Las Olas and Riverfront. It's just the far west end of Las Olas (sort of). So depending on how you wish to get around and if you want to walk a lot, you would check out Riverfront from Las Olas, then just cross over the train tracks at 2nd Ave and you are at Himmarshee. It's just a small little area, which is really more hopping at night. During the day you have a few little restaurants like Tarpon Bend. OB House is good for breakfast. Then walk towards the water in Himmarshee and you have Riverwalk which connects back to Las Olas on the river side. Hope that all makes sense.

You will need to Uber or drive to the Hard Rock, but I think well worth checking out.

Yes! You will enjoy the water taxi. They give you a tour of all of the mansions on the water. There are lots of rich and famous people with homes. They point out all of that and the history.

Las Olas and Himmarshee are walking distance apart, except with the heat and humidity it would be preferable to take Uber or a cab. Himmarshee is a slightly younger, cheaper crowd. It is a bunch of dive bars. Las Olas is more of the upscale crowd with money. You see fancy cars, rich guys pretending to be Tony Soprano, and women dressed to the 9's.

Seminole Hard Rock is more of a club atmosphere. They have mega clubs there that are South Beach style. You will want to Uber/cab it because its a bit of a drive and I'm assuming you'll be drinking.

For food, our strengths here are Italian food, Mexican, Spanish/Latin food, and Thai for some reason which is odd because there is almost no Thai population here. Chicago has excellent Asian food, so I would probably skip that genre while visiting because you can get that back home.

For Italian, Dough Boys Pizza is a great hole in the wall joint located on SE 17th Street east of Federal Hwy in Fort Lauderdale. Although their pizza is good, they have lots more choices beyond pizza. Their calzone and garlic bread are amazing.

Anthony's Runway 84 located on SR-84 just west of Federal Hwy in Ft Lauderdale is great Italian food. It is pricey and more upscale, and you will want to make reservations on a weekend. Anthony's Coalfire Pizza is a pretty good South FL chain and is owned by the same owners as Runway 84. For slightly less expensive but still good Italian, try Nick's located on A1A near Oakland Park.

For a great atmosphere (but not necessarily outstanding food), we have lots of waterfront dining establishments in Fort Lauderdale. Bokamper's Sports Grill just off Oakland Park Blvd and A1A is amazing for atmosphere and has a great bar. Food is reasonably priced. For more upscale, try Chart House also located off Oakland Park and A1A. Shooters I've also heard is good, but haven't been there myself. You could also try Aruba located off Commercial Blvd and A1A which is right on the beach.

I second taking the water taxi around.

If you're renting a car, consider driving up to The Square Grouper in Jupiter.
Or Sailfish Marina on Singer Island

It doesn't sound like you've ever been to either location. Do you even live in the area?

Himmarshee Public House, OB House, Tilted Kilt, Taco Craft, Rok Brgr, Sushi Song, Tarpon Bend, etc are far from 'dive bars'. Maybe at 4am at Lucky's or Capones but otherwise no.

You are disparaging a bunch of local restaurateurs with your unfounded and untrue remarks.

As far as Tony Soprano wannabes, I live on Las Olas and spend a lot of time in Himmarshee and my husband is a restaurateur on Las Olas and in the area and your over generalizations are insulting. Yes, there are a lot of rich people but many of them are professional athletes, local professionals, clergy, young professionals, students, etc.

Oh please. Himmarshee definitely has a reputation as the 2AM dive bar spot. While not all encompassing, that IS the reputation. Late nights are when that area really comes to life.

I don't know Las Olas that well, but I recommended Cafe Martorano up on Oakland and A1A. It's and interesting place with great food. For more authentic Italian, I prefer the places out west that I know.

Brusketta in Pembroke Pines, then D' Angelo Elia and Bellini in Weston are outstanding, too. Brusketta is pure Italian home cooking and a best kept secret that is totally hidden. Broccolini Cafe in Cooper City is a pretty good option, too. And the best pasta restaurant, probably that I've ever been to... is up in Margate and just called "Pasta And..."

And if you want to totally geek out at a little Italian American market (not a restaurant), hit up "Mimi's Ravioli" in Hollywood.

There are definitely some great Italian places all over Fort Lauderdale and I'm sure some others can chime in. But generally speaking you have 2 types of Italian. You have the Italian-American version, which is your typical local Italian places, then you have authentic Italian... which you won't typically find things like stuffed shells at.
+1 for Martorano. They have two locations - one on Oakland Park and A1A and the other one at the Hard Rock. Not cheap, but truly one of the best, with great service too.

The Longhorn Outlaw ribeye is one of my favorite steaks in the price range. Outback is off 17th and while I am not always happy with some of their steaks, the prime rib has always been good for us and the wife likes the Filet Mignon.

Then there is Runions http://runyonsofcoralsprings.com/85045.html but a long ride.

If you want a good steak at a historical Fort Lauderdale steak joint - try the Tropical Acres.

+1 for Thai Spice. Always consistently good, great ambiance.

I would also recommend Tee Jay's Thai Sushi on US1, North of Commercial Blvd. Or they have another location in Wilton Manors.
TEE JAY THAI SUSHI RESTAURANT

Speaking of Wilton Manors, there is a very nice restaurant there called Rosie's Bar and Grill
See and be seen at Rosie's Bar & Grill
