Oops, not sure what went wrong then!!!

We have 2 days after our cruise from Fort Lauderdale before flying home. Need advice on good area to stay and sight seeing. We want a decent hotel. We will have a car and are thinking of seeing something of the Everglades. We are not bothered about the beach, but would like to be able to walk out in the evenings to restaurants or shops etc.

Look forward to good options.

I used to live in South Florida but still return each month for business. One option, since you're not interested in the beach, is to stay in Weston, FL. I have stayed at the TownePlace Suites by Marriott off of Three Village Road--nice free breakfast, small but complete kitchens, great location and reasonable rates. The Weston Town Center is right across the street with shops, restaurants and parks. Nice safe walkable area with sidewalks throughout the clean, manicured neighborhood.

The northern section of the Everglades is right next to Weston. You can sign up for an Everglades airboat tour-- l believe there is one off of US 27 & Griffin Road, about 15, 20 minutes from the hotel. When we lived in Weston, relatives visited us and took the tour and enjoyed it. I also took an airboat tour in Palm Beach County many years ago. I recommend it if you are interested in seeing the Everglades and have the time.

The main entrance to Everglades National Park is about 90 miles to the south--all highway driving but a drive nonetheless. But it's also worth the drive. We have stayed in a motel by the park, The TravelLodge which was fine. But Florida City definitely isn't walkable. Typical motels by the highway -- Florida City is not exactly a vibrant town either.

If you go to the park, you must stop at Robert Was Here--fresh fruit, homemade jams and honey and baked goods and other stuff. Yum!

Enjoy your stay!

Stay in Lauderdale by the Sea for a good walking to shops and restaurants area. Get on the water taxi for tour of Ft Lauderdale. To see the Everglades, take the long drive to Flamingo. Shark Valley is a good alternative. Either one will take all day to do right.

Thank you all for replies. I will start looking at hotels in Fort Lauderdale and then the Everglades airboat trip.
