That area is fine. It's actually kind of sawnky back there. But avoid going to Pompano Beach (north of the hotel). You probably will be fine there but that's where all of the high level violence is around here and there is nothing to see anyway.

Smile Thanks for the help, not planning

on going out after we check in. at least not after dark and checking out early to get back home. I'm a bit unclear about what you said tho, where is the high level violence? around the hotel or Pompano?
Sorry, my brain isn't quite in gear today.

In Pompano. The hotel area is perfectly fine, just take basic precautions like you would at any hotel in a major city. There are a lot of car burglars out, that would be my number one concern, and that is prevented by simply locking your car door and not leaving valuables in plain sight. If you live in Tampa (I have seen your posts on that forum and found them interesting) the crime will not seem like a big shocker at all. It's actually pretty easy to tell when your getting into a bad neighborhood, and they are easy to avoid. Just stay out of Pompano, that's all. I would also avoid Oakland Park at night unless you are looking for porno stores. During the day it's sleazy but fine.

Anyway, Pompano is about a mile north on US1. Most of the really bad stuff is set back and far from where you are staying but it's just kind of an ugly area and you might as well avoid it if you have no reason to be there anyway. Even their beach sucks.

I live within walking distance to the west of that LaQuinta. It's fine. There's a strip mall a block north of it, a megachurch a block south, and residential areas to the east and west (the area to the east is along the Intracoastal and most definitely upper-income). Also plenty of good restaurant options within a five-minute drive, so there's no reason to venture very far from the hotel.

Default we're originally

from NY, no need to tell us but always good to remind others who might be reading, thanx.
Car isn't a hot target. It's a beetle with a bashed bumper. but it has an alarm and remote locks.
If you've read MY posts you know porn isn't our thing Thanks for the props tho.
We just need a reasonably safe place to crash for the night. We have some business in NMB all day on Sun and can't handle a turnaround, we're not getting any younger
DH called and they have 24 hr. security. He feels ok about it. again thanks to all.

You can try Levy's in Hollywood. BTW-the La Quinta should be fine. I would stay there.
