Somebody recommended Oakland Park downtown, which is right on Dixie Highway north of west Oakland Park boulevard. Sorry, but that specific area is not 100% safe in my opinion and my experience. That's fine if I have to drive through to go somewhere else while doing my errands and/or work but not a place to hang around much less after dark. Light years away from what Las Olas is and represents as style of life. Any comparable within the City of Fort Lauderdale have to be on the East Side of the city like the ones I have assessed before in Coral Ridge and North Beach.

You say potato I say potatoe.
It’s all relative to one’s opinion.

As nice as Las Olas is, it’s predictable.
Variety is the spice of life.
The OP specifically asked for other than Las Olas.

Another place that comes to mind that is similar to Las Olas is the East portion of Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach.

Not sure if that's too far North for the OP.

Dixie is quite gritty... The stretch of Dixie in Oakland Park is improving, but other than Funky Buddha and Tatts and Tacos, what else is there?
