Well there are many that live here year round, but many are just tourists or snowbirds. We are at the end of the snow bird season, May is usually when they go back up north. So many come down Jan - April, to get away from winter, then they go back up to get away from our heat.

And where exactly might you have been these past 50 years or so?

Southeast Florida has been the vacation and retirement selection for NY and NJ folks since the late 50's. Arguably, the area would not be as built up as it is had it not been for that phenomenon. Certainly not Miami Beach and Palm Beach at least. South Beach was predominantly a Jewish retirement village long before it became redone as a trendy gay enclave in the 80's.

You hadn't heard that South Florida is also known as New, New York?

Thats one of the things I LOVE about Florida. There are people from all over, I as a transplant feel right at home because there are so many others here. I grew up part of my life near Boston, at the time, Florida was where we all came for vacation and many retired when they got older. If they were extremely lucky, they had the money to have a home here as well.

Go to a Miami Dolphins-NY Jets Game or NY Mets - Florida Marlins Game so you can really see how many NYer's there are down here compared to native South floridians. The crowd is always split 50/50 down the middle, it's nuts.

My parents are NY transplants themselves, their decision was a no brainer back in the 80's. High Crime, Cold weather and expensive housing or Lower Crime, cheaper housing and balmy weather?

No wonder the driving is awful.

I saw the Rays-RedSox game on tv yesterday, and I saw more RedSox colors than Rays' colors. Seems like there isnt much loyalty in most of FL. And that is why many are leaving = little sense of community in many areas, crime, cost of living, rude ppl, and I could go on, unfortunately

Signed,
FLAborn

Isn't that kind of cliche? Take a look at where people are leaving to (look up crime rates) and some of the type of people that are leaving, then try to stop laughing. The safest, most tight knit places are really up north.

I believe it compelled, the south, for some reason seems to have more crime than up north. I dont really get it. But for sure, some of the most dangerous cities (Detroit, Philly, Newark) are up North. Speaking of that RedSox-Rays game the other day, that pitcher had one heck of an arm did that kid!

Person A from City A moves to City B. Person A then calls Person B back in City A telling them how great City B is. Person B gets duped and moves to the new place. Repeat a million times and rinse and there you have it.
