That one pre-dates me!

Although I remember an aunt of mine saying that when she first moved to that area (late 60s maybe?) that there was NOTHING around.

Yep...I do. My own former city's police department was gobbled up by BSO (Cooper City).

I was just about to say that it's Ikea now, but Compelled beat me to it. I remember taking my sister to a couple of birthday parties there. That was one of the first places I remember just using a prepaid card to play video games (similar to Dave and Buster's system).

I don't remember that waterslide, but I do remember one that was in Davie. It was right off University Drive--had 3 slides going into a pool and then a little bit from that was a Pizza Hut. This one along with Castle Park and the original Grand Prix were victims of 595.

Most of my earlier expertise is South Broward. I never ventured into North Broward until sometime in my late teens/early 20s.

Hi, Kalbo -

I came for Spring Break in the 1970's and never wanted to leave the beach! My kid thinks of the Elbo Room as a place for "old people" because that was our generation's hot bar (guess it goes back to the 1930's). Remember how crowded A-1A got during Spring Break in the 1970's? (anyone else this old on this forum?)

There also use to be a water slide at the corner of Dixie Hwy and Commercial Blvd, along with a large fresh fruit and vegetable market.

Can't believe none of us have mentioned the Sportatorium, which was the big concert venue in the pre-Miami Arena/BankAtlantic Center/American Airlines Arena days. Seems like everyone I know who attended an event there has a few stories about that old barn.
