Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations for State of Florida approved contractors? We received a MySafeFloridaHome inspection and we would now like to update the windows/sliders, entry doors, garage doors and roof. Actually, any contractor recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance....

I'm so glad you responded - it was actually your response in another thread about installing impact resistant windows that inspired me to post this thread. I worked as an investigator for the state attorney's office after Hurricane Andrew, and only ever heard horror stories, so I have been dreading this process! Thanks...

I sent you a PM as promised. One of the key points was finding a reputable installer and a company that I knew was going to be around longer than the hurricane season :-) and was in business longer than our last hurricane which was Wilma. Plus other factors.

I checked out every single company, and the owners, then crossed checked their names in sunbiz.org to see if they had owned any other businesses and every single time I came away being suspicous about the company and the owners. I even did a background check on a couple of companies and their owners that I was contemplating doing business with. Oh, the things I learned.

Good luck!!

We are looking to replace sliders and windows in our new home as well. I'd appreciate the info. on your installer if you wouldn't mind passing it along.

Thanks!

I'm using Home Depot and replacing all the windows for hurricane windows with a lifetime warranty.

You can use the regular chain such as:

Sears
Lowes
Folkers
Mayors

We are using Home Depot as well (wasn't sure I could say that). There is a caveat. We did not want to use their Home Service program because they want you to buy Simonton and the price is ridiculous. The HD in Coral Springs is installing Security made by Traco. This is an in-store product. For some strange reason our local store in Weston could not or would not do this. What is key is the installation and that store has a good installer.
