Nearby Hallandale, Aventura, and Sunny Isles seem to have a large Russian population and some of this population spills over into Hollywood. I agree with others that it feels more like Broward than Dade. I would argue that Aventura and Sunny Isles have more of a Broward feel than Dade County feel even though they are in Dade County.

Hollywood native here, grew up there in the 60s and 70s, left the area in the late 80s but come/go enough to know the changes. Hollywood has always been a nice place to live for the most part, especially as a kid which I likened to the TV show The Wonder Years...it really was that innocent/wholesome. That seemed to end almost overnight after the abduction/murder of Adam Walsh in 1981. It happened at the Sears in the Hollywood Mall which was about every pre-teen or teen's favorite place to go get ice cream, meet up with friends to go to the movies across the street at the Florida Twin or shop for the latest fashion or records in the mall shops. Very sadly and suddenly that world went away for most that summer and onward, although arguably not just in South Florida. Today, of course, many years later that memory has faded and would say for 21st century living it's still a relevant option for families, younger professionals and seniors not wanting the usual. The most consistent neighborhoods in terms of maintaining value are the Hollywood Lakes section on the east side, the Park Road corridor (central), Hollywood Hills and Emerald Hills (west/NW)and Hillcrest (south side).

When ever I hear of Hollywood, Florida I always think of Adam Walsh.

I have family living in Hollywood and though they consider Miami as their "capital" per say, they do have their own thing going on there.

I would choose Hollywood over Miami or Fort Lauderdale any time
