what type of flea/tick meds do you use on cats in so. fla (house)

now that I'm officially transferring, I want to know if pet meds (specifically in cats) work best in the so. fla. heat and is there anything I should know in addition to fleas, ticks and alligators if my cats are indoor/outdoor and yes I'll get a fenced in yard.

Frontline used to work like a charm on fleas, but no longer (the fleas became immune?). Now we use Advantage, and it works well. There haven't been ticks down here that I've seen for about 5 years, but when they're around, they get bad fast - I used Frontline at the time for them. The past couple of years 3 of my pets have gotten fungal skin infections which the vets couldnt diagnose (kept telling me it was dermatitis and prescribed steroids), but a friend from California recognized it and had us get a skin cream from a Asian grocery store marketed for human fungal infections and it worked like a charm - we ended up buying a case of the stuff (crazy, huh?)...

The challenge with having indoor/outdoor cats that we've found is that they love to bring "play-things" into the house. Over the past few years, we've had birds, squirrels, field mice/rats and countless lizards brought in through the pet door. Never dull, but forget about having a bird feeder if you have a hunter cat.

We have 6 cats btw (we live on a farm), and don't have a fence all the way around, but they always come home for food and a rub-down....

I applied Pet Armour to both of my dogs and despite that, they were infested with ticks! 2 small Shih Tzus and there must have been 60 ticks on each dog. Had to have them "de-ticked", the house was bombed with pesticide by the exterminator, I took them both in right away for Lyme Disease vaccines and thoroughly washed everything with hot water and vacuumed and disposed of vacuum cleaner bags. Use BRAVECTO for dogs - I was able to get Bravecto from the vet even though I had just applied the Pet Armour the day before. After the Bravecto, The ticks were dead on the dogs within a couple of hours. Check your pets thoroughly for ticks - your animals will not necessarily itch or scratch at all - the bite is slow and gradual from a tick. However, if you have one tick, be aware they multiply very, very quickly and in large numbers! Try to avoid a tick problem at all costs! It is a nightmare to fix. Use BRAVECTO or any other oral medication that is vet recommended. The topicals do not tend to work and the Vets do not recommend them.

We use Revolution on our cats.

We watched a friends cat for awhile who came to us infested with fleas, Revolution killed them dead ASAP
