Hi everyone,

Been reading the froum for a while now as my husband and i are relocating to South Florida.

Our office is in Aventura - just before the mall - and we think we would be better off living in Broward than Dade. With a 1/2 hour commute at the most.

At the moment we have found a places we like in Victoria Park - specifically on on N 18th Street - in between las olas and sunrise - we think - we were wondering if anybody has any info on this particular area - is it safe?? Nice place to live etc.....

Does anyone reco any other areas or have any advice for us.

Anything you have will be much appreciated.

Thanks

I guess it depends on your budget and a few other factors. I don't know how much you know about Victoria Park. The houses are, for the most part, charming with most having been renovated in recent years. It is one of the older areas in Fort Lauderdale. Great location. It is near some crime areas and I think it would be great if someone who lives in the area could comment on this. Personally, I like the area.

It is also close to shopping, the beach, etc.

In hecking on your address - could it be NW or NE? More info is needed.

Isn't the north side of Vicky Park the suspect side?

At that address, you will be a two iron from Sunrise Key. If that isn't nice and/or safe enough for you, you might as well not move down.

Although, if you're working in Aventura, there are tons of brand spankin' new condos right there practically being given away.

Default Thanks - anymore info out there??

Thanks for the comments so far - i did think the area looked nice but when i typed in the crime index it seemed high.
Any advice on where else to live around a 30 min commute of the Aventura Mall - would be much appreciated.

Single family homes are pretty scarce in Aventura, but it is packed with high end condos. One place you could look is the Sky Lake subdivision in North Miami. Zip 33180 It's very close to Aventura and there are still some nice homes there.

Well, first of all, going from the intracoastal neighborhoods to Aventura is going to be pushing your 30 minute limit anyway unless you run all the lights on Sunrise getting to 95. That's 15 minutes right there and another 25 to Aventura.

You could just as easily run down 75 from Weston to Miramar Pkwy and cut across in the same amount of time. You can't get "nicer" or "safer" than Weston.

Since I live in weston, I can assure you that it takes longer then 1/2 hour to get to aventura during rush hour.

You didn't mention your budget. There are also nice area in Hollywood.

Check out houses East of US1 in Hollywood - nice area with a downtown filled with restaurants and shops that aren't "mall-ish" and a broardwalk along the beach with touristy-type shops and restaurants, as well as a Sunday organic market. Lots of easy walking in a village-y type atmosphere all about 15 minutes north of Aventura.
