There are other neighborhoods I prefer that are on the same level of Shenandoah (Jacaranda Country Club off of Nob Hill in Plantation, for example), but it's nice enough I suppose. Make sure you get a great deal, if you buy there - foreclosure action in here is fairly high. I would also imagine there are a lot of high school kids given its proximity to Western HS which could be a negative.

But if you DO have high school kids Shenandoah could be a little higher up. I think Western HS is a safer HS than Plantation or South Plantation (not sure where Jacaranda CC feeds). I like Shenandoah, but I agree that Jacaranda CC is nice also.

Jacaranda CC is nice, so is Shenandoah. My parents live there. Shenandoah is very family-oriented and pretty low crime (there have been burglaries there however, but not a lot), good location too, but Jacaranda feels more upscale. That whole area around Shenandoah has a pretty middle American feel to it, although there is one dirty looking (albeit very quiet) trailer park that has a couple of light duty sex offenders in it, and a few other very clean mobile home parks. There are also estate homes on one side and the back end borders on a quiet part of Sunrise. The houses around there range from 200 thousand dollar patio homes to the millions, built from mid 80s to brand new. I wouldn't worry too much about being close to Western, the kids there are harmless. Basically, if you are a family man looking for a solid middle class neighborhood or looking for a big house in a less uptight setting, you will like it.
