Man that is funny you mention that. Used to pass that place all the time.

I grew up in Hollywood in the 1960's and '70's. Went to Nova High School, when Davie was 'the boondocks' and cowboy country. Anyone remember The Hitching Post restaurant? I have many fond food/culinary memories of Broward back in those days ... Lester's Diner (open 24 hours and HUGE coffee cups!), The Reef Restaurant, Mai Kai Polynesian restaurant and show, in my hometown of Hollywood there was Moe Weiner's sandwich shop which had the very best subs, Tark's clams in Dania, Lums (my first job), Fowler's Restaurant, Morrison's Cafeteria at the Hollywood Mall, Rascal House in Hallandale, Moy's Chinese, etc.

Don't forget I-95/94.9 FM. It was quite the competition for Y-100 in the 80s. They would play 95 minutes commercial free a few times a day.

Zeta was rock, Y-100 was pop (Madonna, Michael Jackson, Gloria Estefan).....not really competition. 103 WSHE and 94.9 Zeta were competitiors.

Power 96.5 was quite the competition to Y-100 in the late 80s.

I know it's not exactly Ft Lauderdale, but in the spirit of the season, I have to list another South Florida memory -- visiting the largest Christmas tree in the world at The National Enquirer offices off of I95 in Lantana. Now Scripps Howard is there.

Default No way

What has gotten better ? LOL No, Ft. Laud. has gotten unrecognizable for us older gen. . I left 7 years ago for a little not yet populated town 23 miles west of Ocala. Now the riff raff have finally found this place too. But we did have 7 years of old FL. feel before now. That's better than nothing. Right ? BTW, I remember that huge Christmas tree you spoke of. My Ex wife's family had a tradition of always going up to Lantana to see it each year.

Hey, Doe's anyone remember the original Six Bits deli a little north of Cypress Creek Rd. (north 62 street) on Dixie Hwy. ? Just about on the Pompano Border of the north end of Ft. Laud. . Man their roast beef subs were 5 inches thick. It was really a novelty. NO place had subs like this ! Remember, Not to be confused by a sub shop that stole their name in the same vicinity that didn't hold a candle to them. Bet no one remembers that ? Was kind of a small industrial area.
