I'm originally from south florida (born in Hialeah, raised in Biscayne Park and North Miami Beach) but I've lived in Tallahassee for the last 6 years or so. Consequently, I've kind of lost touch with the area. I'm planning a trip home for the Thanksgiving break and I'd like some feedback about good bars, microbreweries, pubs, taverns, and the like in the greater Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood area. Although I've been known to drink my share of cold, bubbly barley water at sports bars, I'm more interested in finding out where the funky and unique dive bars (preferably with good beer lists) are. Also, I love live music with my beer, so where are some good venues with live blues, jazz, or latin music. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

As you probably know, Ft Lauderdale isn't exactly world-renown for it's live music scene. The best place in town would be Revolution, located downtown that sometimes gets acts as big as Pink & Nelly but more often features alternative fare.

As for best dive bars, Elbo Room will always be #1! Treasure Trove on the beach is also good (one block back from ocean). For larger beer selections try Beirbrunnen (also one block back from beach) and Briney's Irish Pub on the waterfront in Riverwalk.

Have fun!

Thanks for the tips miahowl, I've already returned to Tallahassee and I had a great time down in south Florida. I actually went to a show at revolution (Q-tip and the Cool Kids) while I was there. I went to a couple of bars in Hollywood (PRL) and South Beach (Club Deuce, Zeke's, the Abbey) that I liked but the bar I went to in Fort Lauderdale had no power so it was dim and weird. Anyways, thanks for the recommendations.
