It is pleasant to hear that you have had a good experience. It starts to get dreary, when all you hear are these bad experiences that people have. I started loosing hope.

I don't want to add fuel to the fire, but I lived in Cooper City from 1992 to 2006. My son attended the CC schools from K-12. The CC schools are the better of all the evils, in terms of public schools. He never learned how to study, how to write a paper. He was intelligent on his own merit but completely bored in school. Just beware the middle and high school are loaded with drugs and kids with too much free time on their hands. DM if you need more info.

Good Luck!

I knew this was coming, I just knew it.

Anyway, Cooper City is a great choice and the schools are great. I know someone who teaches English at Pioneer Middle School, and he has great things to say about it. Don't let the negativity get to you too much on this forum - it's very infectious.

LBMommy - I think you have to come down ahead of time and check things out. I Know Long Beach pretty well and I think that you would be comfortable in any one of the places you mentioned. Is your husband going to work in Miami? I'm just wondering why you are concentrating on these specific areas. Coral Springs is beautiful and I've done most of my homework in that area. nearly all of their schools are A rated and a lot of them are magnet schools, so please google Coral Springs, I think you will be very happy with what you read. They have something like 458 soccer teams for the kids, big, big, big kid friendly place. I was told tha it was voted the safest city in broward. I don't know how true that is, but it seems nice.

I was focusing on Cooper City because it was closer. Someone my husband knows said the commute from Coral Springs would be bad. It is hard, everyone he works with is moving to Miami, but we are the only ones with kids. I have found Central Park elementary in Plantation that looks good too. Anyone know anything about it? I did look into an apartment in Coral Springs, only to find the school was not great. I think with the commute, it's what is closer to the highway? Cooper City is very similar to Long Beach. Size is the same and their rec center has gobs of activities. I thought a smaller town might have more appeal.

I am also only going to be there through 2012. So as long as the primary school is good... We will have 3 days to come down at the end of May for a July 1 move. Believe it or not, that is how we moved from Indiana to Manhattan too! Look Day 1, decide Day 2, sign Day 3.

Oh wow, Indiana - that is big change! Do you live in Manhattan or Long Beach? I'm confused. Long Island is a completely different animal than any of the Boroughs, you can't really compare them. I do not want to detur you from Cooper City, I have a good friend who lives there, she just told me that there is a lot of older people there. I'm thinking more for your kids. Davie and Weston are a little newer (I believe) and may be a little more appealing than CC. I would love to know which school you were speaking about in Coral Springs, almost every school they have their is an A rated school (almost all...), but there are definitely some questionable areas. The funny thing about SFL and something for you to keep in mind is that the price of the home and the grade of the school do not necessarily go together. Eg. my friend who lives in Coral Springs, lives in an area that is zoned to go to the worst high school in CS (it is graded a "B", but the homes there are 500K or more. So it is not reflective of the price of the home. To me that was completely strange, I would figure you pay higher taxes to live in a nicer area and that isn't really the truth.

We lived in Manhattan on the upper east side for one year, then moved and have been in Long Beach for 2 years. We would have stayed in Manhattan, we loved it, but they raised our rent by $500/month when we received our lease renewal. The apartment I found in Coral Springs must have been in the 1 bad elementary school. I honestly can't remember what it was called. I have to laugh- the house I live in now is 500k and is not quite 1000sf! We keep laughing about the "supersize" place we will live in.

space is limited any where in NY. I don't know anyone other than extremely rich people who live in a large home. For me I'm willing to give up some things for SFL. The quality of life is very different. Apartments come with w/d as a standard, bathroom in the master bedroom, WIC. No you don't make as much, but you don't get taxed as much and what you are paying for puts what we pay for in the dirt. You will be fine, but I do think that putting her in a school district that is good from k-12 is a good idea. Hopefully, we can meet when we are there. I have a 7 year old, maybe they can play together.

I am just excited to have a dishwasher again! A full size stove! In Indiana we owned our home, then sold it when we moved. We will possibly be in Chicago after this, it's the nature of my husband's job. That would be great to have a play date. Where do you live in Queens? My husband is a project manager on the new Mets stadium, so his office is in Willets Point (I know).
