I have a son in HS and based on research, I heard that the HS in CC has drug problems and the traffic to drop off kids is horrendous. Do any of you know more information about that? School is a major concern but I know the schools here in FL are not the greatest. I also thought about private schools but they all seem to be religious. We're spiritual but not religious. Any advice on those schools as well?
My son went to CCHS and graduated in 2006. Yes, there are drugs. I know they still do, because I have a friend who has a son who is a senior. My son tells me everything, and I mean everything. I guess that is good and bad..

I would say that CCHS is the better of all the evils in terms of public school, but please know that there are drugs in private schools as well. The education he got was okay, nothing great.

If you move to Southwest Ranches your kids are bus to different area were folks who live in Cooper City stay within the city limits. Weston also buses kids quite away from their area.

Weston does not bus kids far away from their area. Kids in Weston go to elementary and middle school within city limits. High school kids got to Cypress Bay (in Weston) or Western (just outside Weston in Davie).

I am moving to either Cooper City or Weston as well- have 13, 9, & 7 yr old. I've heard that Weston has some prestigous areas; does it have low-income areas? And Cooper City? We are looking for areas w/ houses up to $425k.

FL seeker, We raised 4 kids in S FL. I have personal experience with Hollywood, Miramar and Cooper City schools. Our 2 youngest finished H.S. at CCHS (2002 and 2004). As you've probably read, the schools are A rated and the community is very family friendly (excellent sports programs etc). I loved living there for those reasons and because of the small town feel (pop. under 30,000) and low crime rate. Drugs are an issue at the high school (is there any community where they are not?) but, KNOW your kid's friends-WHERE they go & WHAT they're doing and they'll fare just fine. There are bargains to be found in real estate these days (many homes are selling for approx. 2002 prices). The median price home is probably somewhere in the $300k range, but, you can find homes valued up to a million or more. On the flip side (unlike many neighboring communities) there is NO bad part of town (I can recall only one apt complex and NO mobile homes). There is a very high percentage of "owner occupied" residences which is a great indicator of neighborhood stability. Look at the city-data info for things like; families below poverty level, median income, education level of residents etc. for any community you're considering. All in all, I highly recommend Cooper City as a great place for families looking for affordable housing and "above average" schools.

Well I can see that you have probably bought and moved already. I can tell you that I lived in Cooper City for 7 years and I had to move to Panama (the country) because of the recetion. I miss it so much I was so unbelivably happy there that I am so scared I will never find that happyness again. It is an amazing place and I love it. I have lived and traveled to many many places in my life and the life I had in Cooper City was by far the best so good luck.

My brother has lived in Alpharetta , Ga for three years now ... and he was shocked at the amount of drugs at the upper middle class mostly lily white middle school he has my nephew at ... and to think he left Cooper City in 2006 for that very reason and for a supposedly lower cost of living in
GA . In all honesty he also left for a better career opportunity ... but I like Cooper City and I did not think moving to Alpharetta was that much of an upgrade for him and his young family .

I agree Cooper City is a fine place to live and most people that I know who have lived there were very happy .

Weston and Cooper City are both fine areas to live .. two of the best areas in South Florida IMO .... Weston is a little more upscale , is more hispanic , probably a higher median income , and newer . Cooper City though has a small town feel , people are friendlier , and it has an amazing sense of community and lacks the "plastic" and "phony" attitude exhibited by many Anglos and Hispanics in Weston .. there is more of a keeping up with the "Joneses " and the "Hernandez's " in Weston than in Cooper City .... both places have excellent schools ( Florida standards ) many activities and lovely parks and low crime . There are no real low income areas in Weston in other words no ghettos , none in Cooper City either .. you do have areas in both with apartments and lower priced homes .... Bonaventure seems to be that place in Weston .... and yes you can purchase a beautiful 4 bedroom 2/1 bath home with pool for $ 425 K in either city . Good Luck

I am sure there are alot of drugs in Alpharetta.

Many people who left Fl, specifically Weston and CC are in Alpharetta. I live close to there and I think for us anyway, the quality of life is better. I probably know your brother coming from CC, LOL
