why do people with kids not live on the beach? (Miami: for rent, house)

those are nice!!!!!! I guess surfside is like any other area, some areas nice, others run down. I had only seen the run down parts

I would DEFINITELY go with Surfside in Miami-Dade and look no further. Close to South Beach but with half the crime and it's own little bar and club scene, trendy but not in your face. Just check it out and enjoy. Shop at Bal Harbour and Aventura and that side of town has restaurants galore. Surfside is also pretty walkable with it's own pedestrian friendly Publix and what not. Go go go go!

However, price range? If your price range is under 1000 a month, than downtown Hollywood/Hollywood beach. If it's over 1,000, Surfside.

I've noticed he's been pretty quiet during this thread, which I found surprising because I remembered this post. He seems to like downtown Hollywood/Hollywood beach pretty well too. And, not to belabor the point, but there are no run-down areas in Surfside that I recall.

I LOVE Delray!!! We spent 6 weeks there the summer before last, and one of the things that stood out to me were the Moms at the ice cream place with their kids between the beach and the bridge on Atlantic Ave. They had arranged a regular meet-up on Wednesday nights, and I thought that was the coolest thing. I have no idea about the schools though. Maybe the gifted coordinator in PB is more helpful?

I think you need to look back on the posts. I did not call Surfside a slum, just run down looking. In fact, I specifically said, it's not ghetto, just kind of run down looking.

Nobody said it was cheap. What we said was that it was nicer than Surfside even though it had older houses. The pricing reflects that it is nicer than Surfside. Neighbhorhoods like Victoria Park illustrate exactly why people whith kids don't live east. The nice neighborhoods that are east (like Victoria Park) are unaffordable.

that is the samething i noticed. Especially if you drive straight down a1a toward miami. That area off of that looks really run down

I am starting to think you guys have the northern-most end of Miami Beach confused with Surfside. A1A on Surfside consists of all upscale condos, while there are some areas that are a bit rough around the edges (though still pricey as many people consider this character) at the north end of Miami Beach. As you're just driving through, you'd have no clue of the street boundary where the towns change.

I haven't really paid attention to this thread, but really the only "run down" parts of Surfside (imo) are right off of Harding where you might find a couple of scruffy apartment buildings and Hialeah-style homes with burglar bars on them. The rest of Surfside can be slightly gritty to the west but not "run down" at all, and to the east mostly upscale.
