Hello, I have been accepted in the marine biology program at NSU, however the oceanographic center campus is located in John U Llyod Beach State Park. I wont have a car, so was looking for apartment complexes safe in the area. Can anyone recommend any places to stay?
Does anyone know if public transport is available within the park? I checked the NSU website, but they dont have shuttle service to the oceanographic center. Another option would be to live on main campus and catch a bus to the center. I am new to the area and would appreciate any help.
thanks,
Minal.

The best place location-wise would be the north-end of Hollywood Beach. You could then literally ride your bike to classes. This is a quiet area of the beach, and really very nice. It may be a bit pricey, but then again you could fall into something in a small rental. The zip for this area is 33019 and you could check on realtor.com, though they would probably only have the higher end rentals. The best way to find an inexpensive rental on the beach in my experience is just to ride around the area and look for For Rent signs on the smaller properties. Since you're not yet in the area yet this presents a challenge. Perhaps you could find a realtor to help you find something.

You might look into rentals at The Danians condos on Dania Beach Blvd. or Meadowbrook Lakes condos on SE 5 Ave. in Dania. The zip is 33004. They should have some rentals and are within biking distance to John Lloyd.

Public transportation is more of a problem. There are county buses that will take you as far as A1A and Dania Beach Blvd., but it's another couple of miles from there to the center. A bike is your only option if you won't have a car.
