Word is that they will no longer be using the dump pretty soon, they will be burning all the garbage.

There is a lot of property built around that area, especially in Deerfield Beach which is really nice, but the home value has dropped due to the dump. I figure once they stop dumping and the smell goes away house values in that are may increase. I am going to probably purchase something in the Creek/Deerfield area.

Hi Ayana. I'm new to Coconut Creek, I've been here for about 6 months now. I moved from Atlanta, Ga. I chose this area because I have 3 children and it seemed like a nice, clean, quiet place to raise them. Also, the schools that they attend are "A" rated, which was very important to me. I have never smelled an odor since moving here, and actually had no idea that a landfill was nearby. I am on the Deerfield Beach side though, actually right at the border. Maybe that is the reason. We love it here. I guess it also depends on where you're moving from too. I hated where we lived before. High crime, trashy people, bad schools, etc...Good luck with your decision!

I visit my family in Coconut Creek at least once a month. They are in the Winston Park sub and I have never smelled the Landfill there. In fact the only place I have smelled it was in pompano near the flea market.

I personally am a fan of the lizards. They eat all the bugs. Where I currently live in SC there is hardly any lizards. My balcony is infested with spiders that would not be there if we had lizards.

Im with you. I love the lizards down here. I especially get a kick out of the giant iguanas that are suddenly everywhere, although they love to eat the new growth on my gumbo limbos and ficus. They're just so astonishing looking, and that they make up the general fabric of the environment, is really cool.

When you drive Coconut Creek Pkway east of Lyons Rd. The further east you go, the more downhill it gets. Seriously. I don't even drive in that area.
Stay on Lyons north...the more north you go, the nicer it gets. Winston park is nice.
