Hi: new to the forums here....I currently live in NYC and am retired (young retiree...lol)...my dad lives in Broward (in Deerfield Beach, actually).....i like it there, but would like to be in an area in either Broward or Palm Beach County, that has a lively, URBANish center to it....as i am considering relocating to South Florida....

I know the biggest downtown center of Broward is Fort Lauderdale, of course, and the biggest downtown center of Palm Beach County, would be downtown West Palm Beach...

Which area has the more lively downtown, with lots of fun stuff to do...more vibrant, entertainment possibilities, etc.....
And which area would you consider safer (relatively speaking).....

Well, downtown Fort Lauderdale is a lot bigger than downtown West Palm Beach. Both downtown West Palm and downtown Ft. Lauderdale have "lock your doors" areas, especially the approach into downtown Ft. Lauderdale from the highway.

Downtown West Palm is a nice place to live, but I think on balance, Ft. Lauderdale has more going on given its size (as a rule, Central/South Florida gets more "busy" as you head further down the east coast).

Appreciate the input...even though i didn't get much response

I have seen downtown West Palm Beach and it is rather cute actually, and does seem to have some nice amenities there....though as you said, downtown Fort Lauderdale is much bigger and it does look like a lot of building is going on there, and i would imagine there will be more amenities coming in to make it even more of a 24 hr type urban area..

I know it already has Las Olas, Riverwalk, Riverfront, etc.....all kinds of bars, restaurants,Broward County Center for Performing Arts, etc...

Is there a large multiplex movie theatre there (stadium seating with a lot of screens)???

Also, are you aware of other entertainment stuff, shopping, etc, that is coming to downtown in the near future??
