After seeing the media blitz on the 18 foot, 400 pound python kept in an Orlando backyard cage, I am wondering is there a way to find out if any of my neighbors have a pet such as that. Obivously this scenario they are checking on his permits and he if he gets the python back he needs to adhere to certain cage type/size. But are permits such as these public record? If you need a permit for such reptiles of concern (that is what the sherrif called it) can an average citizen inquire.
I don't know that I'm opposed, I'm more curious.

Get with a citizen's group and push for certain pets be registered and be on the public record. You should be able to go on a website and see who has these pets and where they live. A large python on the loose can strangle and eat your child before they are able to find it.

Post $$$ - Permits - $$$

Any permit is a matter of public record and all you should have to do is visit the local town clerk and look up the records for the address you are interested in......

The problems starts when no one applies for a permit for they do not want to pay any more money to the state or county......and your prime example would be dog ownership...for anywhere I have ever lived they have required me to have a license for my dog (s) at a cost of $15 to $20 or more per animal per year......and once they have their hooks in you...they send you a yearly bill for the privilege of adopting a shelter dog (s)......so guess what...I like thousands of other normally lawful abiding citizens do not register their pets...

So, do you really think everyone who has bought a Python or other exotic animal has them properly registered...

I have two cats. I moved last year from No. Va. to Broward. For spayed/neutered pets, our county license for our pet dogs are $5 and we receive the tag from our vet right when they do the shots, no tags for cats. I was shocked when the vet told me I had to send in this or that form with proof of the rabies shot with something like $35. I said, hey they are both spayed and are cats. He said it didn't matter that was the price. geez, louise.

Again, regarding the snake, I wasn't looking to get on a pulpit and preach anti-reptile; but it sure would be nice to know if there "are" any of these pets within a few houses that I should be concerned about. My house overlooks the everglades preserve, so for all I know there may be some 18 footers out there in the wild. I have so many ducks behind my house, I am hopeful there are no such predators out there. I've only seen one alligator in my 10 months here and I'm outside a lot enjoying our beautiful sunsets.

" Is there anyway to find out if my neighbors have reptiles of concern?" -OP Quote-

Yes, look for extremely large droppings shaped like poodles!
