Hey I am 19 yrs old and from Dallas, TX. I will be moving to Ft. Lauderdale at the beginning of January when I turn 20. I am moving so I can become a resident after 1 yr. and then apply to the police academy there when i am 21.

I have had 2 jobs in retail and my current job is custodial/ animal handling work at an animal clinic. I was wondering what kind of job I should look for when I arrive or before I arrive. Something that will allow me to at least pay bills (cell, utilities, rent, food, and gas). I know it is more expensive then here in TX.
I would appreciate any advice.

I'm a LEO of 30 years, I suggest you see if you can get a job with either the Broward County government, or one of the municipalities in Broward. Look for a civilian position in a department. Dispatcher, CSA, or whatever is available. Many departments are now using civilians where previously the position was filled by a certified officer and most of the police agencies have frozen the hiring of new officers. Budgets have significantly shriveled up. A civilian job would offer steady income, good benefits, and most importantly, a foot in the door when the hiring freezes are eventually lifted. Good Luck.

either that or try loss prevention at Target or any other major department store. Good luck.
