HI, I am moving to Dania Beach, east of US 1 off of Sheridan. I guess that is SE. Can anyone please let me know how the area is. I have been reading about horrible crime and wonder if I stand a good chance of having a home invasion or something. Feedback would be great. Thanks!

ok well if you are indeed moving EAST of U.S.1 on sheridan you are in for a treat because there are sum very nice parks and communities around there (especialy between the publix of dania beach blvd. and the publix on sheridan and 5th street).. now if you were movin on sheridan west of U.S.1, say for instance by tha train-tracks, its a whole different story (shout-outz 2 Liberia!!)

You don't really stand a good chance of a home invasion anywhere unless you sell drugs, but that's a perfectly sound area as far as crime is concerned. The Dania Beach criminal element is definitely vibrant, but rather than ruthless armed thugs, it mainly consists of drug addicted bums doing snatching-type robberies or burglars who will run if they see you. Think "white trash". This element also isn't very present at all east of US1, and is also less severe (if still present) west of I-95. A much bigger safety concern in that would be the SEVERE flooding that plagues that area after a heavy rain, and for that reason alone, and since the parts of Dania that are nice tend to go under water during the summer, I personally wouldn't live anywhere in Dania Beach.

I drove through that area the other day. It seems very depressed. You would think it would be a prime-area being so close to Fort Lauderdale and the ocean/intracoastal. But it looks almost like a ghost-town along US1.

You obviously haven't been in the area that the OP is referring to, which isn't depressed looking at all, in fact it's pretty 80s suburban Boca-ish. This is probably hard to picture for anyone who has never seen the area aside from driving on US1, but everything off of Sheridan to the east of US1 (say two blocks east) is clean looking, but tends to go under water after a moderate rain. So while not ALL of Dania Beach is shoddy, I still can't recommend it.

Actually, I was there the other day. I know exactly where the OP is talking about. Near the Sheridan Ocean Club. I know, once you go 2 blocks east of US1 it gets nicer. But there is a thin line separating the nice part from the ugly. The "nice" area of Dania is like 1000 feet wide, between the water and US1. That is not very much "nice" land, other than a few gated apartment complexes. Plus the lack of shopping in the area besides a Publix and Walgreens makes it somewhat undesireable. I've always wondered why that area is not more built up like Pompano. It is very close to Fort Lauderdale.

I agree with you, except I would add that there are quite a few nicely kept neighborhoods along 5th Ave. I am not a fan of Dania at all and it's honestly one of my least favorite cities in South Florida, but do have to give credit where it's due.

Yeah there is a nice park across Sheridan. But we are talking about such a small "nice" area surrounded by such a vast not so nice area. There is some old-Florida charm to Dania I suppose, but when you see all of the trashy people hanging on the streets it kills it.

East of US1 Dania is pretty nice.
