I personally like FLL over MIA as far as airports go.. AND.. to get to Collins from FLL is pretty easy. You just hop on 95 and head south. It'll be about a 30 min drive or so. Not sure if youre renting a car, but if not, you can probably find a shuttle service to that area for $50 - 75 I'd imagine.

Good luck and have fun!

Isn't there some sort of public transport train from Miami to the FT Laud airport? I know my son has taken it when he flys out of there.

You can take the Tri-Rail train down to Miami-Dade County and then switch to the Metro-Rail system. But the metro will only take you to downtown Miami. You will then need to take a cab from downtown out to Miami Beach. The public transportation route is really a pain. You can also take the airport shuttle between airports, but you will then have to also take a cab from MIA airport out to the beach. No matter which way you do it, you will have to take a cab to get to Miami Beach from the mainland. Depending on how many days you are staying, you might want to consider renting a car.
