Agree completely with Southwest Ranches but not so much with CC of Miramar (altho the lack of commute would make it a contender as far as Id be concerned - otherwise, it's just too close to iffier neighborhoods to the south and east.)

This information is great, thanks Fauve! I will add Davie to the list, I guess it is a "college town" ? We hope for good public schools with a music programs, too much to ask? I now these get cut a lot.
I forgot to mention I need a town with scouting. My son will enter 5th grade (last year of cubsouts) & definitely wants to continue to boy scouts & my younger daughter does girl scouts. Do most towns in Broward County have scouting?
Thanks again for your help

South of it is some new developments, then the Palm Springs North/Country Club of Miami area...not bad at all. East of it is just some commercial parks. It seems far enough removed from the bad areas without being too isolated (like the developments south of the turnpike). Southwest Ranches has better schools, although I can't really think of anything else wrong with CC Acres. Both areas are significantly closer than Boca or Parkland, which just aren't worth that commute. If public schools are of top importance, I would look look into that 33325 area that fauve mentioned, but only SOUTH of 595 for the school district. I would consider Cooper City, too.

Thanks for clarifying compelled...I knew there was some reason I didnt like it when I went looking for large properties and I was thinking maybe it was the surrounding neighborhoods, but maybe it was just its location close to the turnpike and it was actually a noise issue I reacted to.

Good school, good area but closer to 45 minutes from the commercial centers at certain times of the day...

"Sep. 20--Miramar has become the first city in Broward County to hire structural engineers to review plans for all new homes in the city, instead of simply taking the designers' word that the houses meet hurricane standards."

1. Miramar, Fla., to Ensure Homes Satisfy Wind Code. - Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News | Encyclopedia.com (http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-91869670.html - broken link)

"The decision follows a Herald investigation published last month, which found that the city's Building Division approved blueprints for a subdivision full of homes that were not designed to withstand gusts of 140 miles per hour as required by the local building code."

I was informed that remediation was performed. If you have any concerns regarding this subject, you can contact Jesus Diaz, at the City of Miramar, jediaz (at) ci.miramar.fl.us
