Depends on how deep. If it was really deep, you may want to call your Dr and have an xray to make sure none of the spine broke off in your hand. Also, again if real deep make sure with your DR you are up to date on your tetanus shot.

Clean the wound area well with anti-bacterial soap and use as hot a water as you can stand with out burning yourself. Do this whether the wound was deep or superficial.

This is all to help limit infection. The hot water if done right after getting stuck will also help ease the sting. In reality catfish stings are more painful than dangerous.

You might need antibiotics. A buddy of mine got stabbed by a lobster and he had the classic "red line going up his arm" infection.

I don't think the catfish you ate last night was from the gulf. There is a big differrence in taste between fresh water and saltwater cats.

twobums,

your right, catfish tails make excellent tarpon bait. Especially up the caloosahatchee river toward the bridges and the lock. good luck.

lesson learned the hard way, folks ~ don't wait two weeks to go to the doctor for a catfish spike ... going right away might have stopped the infection.... oh well!

Please don't cut the line. Get a glove and some pliers. It's not fair to the catfish to swim away with a hook in his mouth.
