They can't help but bark - it's a territory thing. Plus, any neighbor who feels that constant barking is an acceptable practice can't be a very good neighbor in other ways. A good example for the need for government regulation, IMO.

Like every other town across the US, people stupidly let their dogs off leash. It makes my blood run cold to think of how many hapless dogs with irresponsible owners meet their end in one of the canals.

We joined the Cape Coral Dog Park over near the old Rose Gardens in Rotary Park. It's HUGE! Dogs get plenty of room to run off their energy and it's a great place for both humans and pups to socialize.

Good for you! You are a responsible dog owner and one that actually cares about the happiness of their pet and respects your neighbors. Highly unusual however as a lot of people don't care about their neighbors or their own dogs.

Yep - can't control other's behavior but can only adapt our own to reconcile it. One certainly can't control who moves in next to them but making the right decisions while in purchase mode could help.

I've always been anti-homeowner associations, but more and more I see reasons for them. Managed appropriately, they can be a big benefit without becoming the severely constraining ones we often see. Tough to do in a pre-established neighborhood, though.

Actually, I live in a "gated" community with an HOA for the reasons u mentioned. I wanted rules that would keep people from behaving like obnoxious idiots, however a lot of the regulations are not enforced and you still have to put up with jerks. If you have regulations you are aware of and sign off on you should obey them or the association should do something, but they don't. Oh well, it's still better than not having a HOA for the most part.

Don't blame the mouse, blame it's owner.

Has anyone put any notice to what kind of dogs that people generally own multiples of?

My guess would be, in this order:

Chihuahuas
Pomeranians
Pit Bulls
Rotweillers
Mutts
Other large breeds to follow

We have 2 Springer Spaniels, but I gather they are somewhat rare in FL - don't see many of them.

I just wonder if most multiple dog owners are indeed large breed owners, or if the majority is small breed multiples?

Wow, this subject of dogs really got my attention. I was thinking of moving to Cape Coral but I am hesitant now and I might have to think about Naples because they have huge lots (like 2.5 acres) which are nice for privacy. I am living in New Jersey right now but am becoming a snowbird starting this year and I am going down to Florida for my second visit in two weeks to look and possibly buy a home. Why are there so many dogs living in Cape Coral? Why do ignorant people allow dogs to bark outside all hours of the day and night? What a way to ruin the neighborhood.
