I head over from Sanibel once a week, in season, to go to the farmer's market & Paesano's... plus breakfast at that pancake place near a dog groomer's... they have the BEST blueberry pancakes!

For the record, I live & work here FT, all year around.

great thing about SWF is that lots of stuff from Everglades City up to Tampa are day tripable....from post by Ricko...

If you like plenty of bars, restaurants, unlimited shopping, beaches, boating, golf, festivals and being 2-3 hours from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa, and 30 minutes from Naples and Sarasota, then you will have fun here. Check out the Edison and Ford Winter home museums.

Also from a Bakin Mama previous post:
There is a lot of stuff to do in the Fort Myers area...

My favorite thing in the Cape is the bridges out of there. LOL
The cape reminds me of some small NJ beach towns. Quaint but dated. Full of trinket shops, and resturants. It's a nice place to visit but wouldn't wanna live there. Beside, it's all fill on top of swamps. Some day when "the big one" hits, it's gonna slide into the gulf never to be seen again.

much of it does call for a refurb - those 60s style bungalos are very unappealing to your typical northeast buyer.

If I was a boat guy I would buy the ugliest one I could find on a canal and see if it could be refurbed to a classic cracker house, which looks real sweet and exotic to northern eyes - throw on a metal roof and wrap around porch - gut it and modernize the inside...granite counters etc

you may be able to take a box like this and convert it
