Hi All!

My husband recently accepted a job in Ft Myers/Napes. His office is currently in Ft Myers but will be moving to Naples as the majority of the work they do is in that area. He left for Florida last Sunday and is staying at an extended stay hotel until I can get us packed and relocated from this end. I don't know where to start as we don't know the area at all except from when we have vacationed there. We are in our early 40s and enjoy the beach, shopping, dinner/drinks out with friends, farmer's markets, working in the yard (fruit trees would be nice), a good gym. We want to be close to things and not out in the boonies if we can avoid it. We are planning to rent first (around $12-1400/month budget) but it would be great if we could find something that is for rent and could even turn around and buy it if we like it enough. We don't have kids so schools are not an issue. We do have 3 senior citizen aged dogs that will be coming with us though so need a fenced yard. Would like to work with a realtor or leasing agent to rent and then buy. Want to avoid chinese drywall at all costs. Don't want to rent something that is in foreclosure or going to be yanked out from under us during the lease. So many questions...so little time! HELP PLEASE!!

I would love a recommendation--- YES!

Thanks to all for the responses so far....keep the suggestions coming as far as areas to look, etc. Can't wait to be there already!

Since you said you were moving to Naples, you should know that there is an actual "Naples" forum, too. Since the home office is in Fort Myers, Bonita Springs and Estero are not bad choices, either, but you may be better off sticking with Naples.

Thank you! I did also post on the Naples board but wanted to have something here as well since we are so unfamiliar with the area--- I figured the more suggestions the better. Yes, we are also considering Estero and Bonita!
