It was so exciting. My husband and I just saw a wild cat in our community in Estero. I was quite a bit larger than a house cat but still small, maybe 40lbs or so and a shorter tail. We wonder what type of cat it was. My husband thinks it may have been a bobcat. Are they around here? I so wish I had my camera with me. We were only about 8 feet from him (we were in our car). He was just standing by the cars in the parking lot looking at us and then he ran into the preserve area. I love seeing new animals and the cute little geccos. That really made my night.

Isn't it gorgeous outside tonight too!!!! Now I know why people say this is paradise. I am so incredibly grateful to be here. My husband is so glad he doesn't have to rake all the massage amount of leaves we used to get.

I've seen panthers at the zoo in Bonita and they are incredibly beautiful and purr just like a housecat! Bobcats can be found in Florida, and throughout the country. Did he look like any of these pics? Bobcat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mostly like the top right photo. I don't remember seeing spots on him but I think his face had faint strips. For sure it was not a panther. I was looking up photos on the internet too and I think it looked most like a bobcat. I just can't believe I saw one and got so close and I have only been here 3 weeks. He may have been more than 40 lbs, I am not sure. He was at least twice or more as big as the biggest, (length wise), house cat I ever saw and he was lean.

Probably a bobcat and that is so incredibly cool!

I wouldn't get too close. It most likely wouldn't bother you but they are pretty viscious.

I usually do the stupid thing and chase after wild animals because I get so excited about seeing them, but I decided I need to stop doing that after hearing some of the deadly encounters people have had. We stayed in the car and even offered a jogger to come into our car if he wanted to. He looked at it and then continued to jog. Thank you for the warning though. Did you ever see one?

I saw a bobcat outside my door while staying at a cabin in Zion National Park.
